The Rotary Club of New Bern Breakfast has established an Evening Companion Club as an alternative option for current, former, and prospective members to be involved in Rotary. The first meeting will be on Thursday May 8th from 5:30 to 6:30 PM, at Savages Pizza, 303 Metcalf Street, in New Bern. Subsequent meetings will be scheduled for the 2nd and 4th Thursday evenings each month. For this first meeting, pizza will be provided by the Membership Committee of the Breakfast Rotary.
“Over the last three months, we held two “Discover Rotary” meetings to gauge the interest for starting an evening club and found there has been a positive response to this suggestion,” said Barry Lutz, a member of the New Bern Breakfast Rotary and District 7720 Membership Chair. “Our regular weekly meetings are held every Thursday morning from 7:30 to 8:30 AM at the Masonic Lodge on Hancock Street, but that’s a difficult time for parents who need to get children off to school or childcare, or folks that need to get to work before 9:00,” explained Lutz.
The Evening Companion Rotary Club will be an extension of the New Bern Breakfast Rotary
Club that was chartered in 1985. Rotary is an international organization of over 1.4 million members who are committed to community service in their local communities as well as for specific projects throughout the world. For over 45 years, one of the primary objectives of Rotary International has been the eradication of Polio globally.
Members of the Evening Companion Club will be inducted as full members of the Breakfast Club and under the governance of its elected Board and Officers. Quarterly dues will be modified as of the new Rotary year beginning on July 1st, because of the reduced meeting schedule and since food/beverages will not be provided as part of the dues, although they may be purchased by individuals if desired.
“We hope this allows more people who are interested in networking, fun, friendship, and community service to be part of our New Bern Breakfast Rotary Club,” said Ann Super, Membership Committee Chair. “Rotary offers so many benefits and opportunities to every member who wants to be involved in making a difference locally and globally. Hopefully by adding the evening meeting option, we will be able to grow our club with men and women of all ages and from different parts of our community who haven’t been able to attend our morning meetings,” she explained, while sharing Rotary’s Vision Statement which states, “Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.”
