Craven Community College Student Art Featured at Bank of the Arts During April ArtWalk

Craven Community College (Craven CC) visual arts students, along with Twin Rivers Artists Association members, will have artwork exhibited in the Bank of the Arts main gallery during the month of April. Over 50 Craven CC students from the New Bern and Havelock campuses are participating in this exhibit and will unveil their artwork during ArtWalk on Friday, April 12, from 5 to 8 p.m.

“The annual student art show is the first time that many of our students have been able to display their work in a public gallery,” said Dr. Betty Hatcher, Craven CC Dean of Arts and Sciences. “We are fortunate to see their amazing work and talents evolve throughout the two years they are in the program, and it’s always such a treat to share that experience with our community each April.”

Hatcher will present the President's Art Award to one of the student artists at 6 p.m. This award recognizes outstanding artistic achievement and innovation among student participants. The President’s Art Award recipient will have their art piece entered into the President’s Collection, a permanent exhibit displayed at the college.

The reception will allow students to interact with the community, showcase their skills, and gain exposure by displaying and discussing their artwork. They also have the option to set prices and sell their pieces. All artwork will be on display for the remainder of the month for patrons unable to attend the reception.

ArtWalk is a monthly event in which local businesses participate to connect the community with local artists. The Bank of the Arts hosts the main event each month in their two galleries, located at 317 Middle Street in downtown New Bern. The event is always free and open to the public.
