Craven CC Foundation to Launch Interactive Congleton Sculpture Tour April 27

The Craven Community College (Craven CC) Foundation will launch an interactive walking tour of the Dr. James B. Congleton, III Sculpture Collection during a special event on Sunday, April 27 at 2 p.m. The public is invited to attend this free event featuring Dr. Jim Congleton, esteemed collector and Craven CC Foundation Board member, who generously donated the artwork to the college.

Dr. Congleton will discuss his personal journey of amassing the diverse 28-piece outdoor sculpture collection and the thoughtful considerations behind his selections. Attendees will gain unique insights into the stories and significance of each artwork.

“For all of us who work and learn on the New Bern campus, we are so very fortunate to view the collection on a daily basis," said Charles Wethington, Craven CC Executive Director of Institutional Advancement. "The collection adds to the fabric of our daily experiences as we walk around the campus."

Dr. Congleton's presentation will take place in Ward Hall at the entrance closest to the Congleton Courtyard. Participants will have the opportunity to embark on an engaging interactive walking tour of the Craven CC campus immediately after the presentation. At each sculpture, visitors can easily scan a QR code using their smartphones or tablets. This will unlock a wealth of information about the artwork and the talented artists who brought them to life.

A new microsite has been launched to provide additional information about each of the sculptures and Dr. Congleton.

"Our goal in launching this new site is to help share this diverse and significant collection of sculpture with the broader community," added Wethington. "We invite the public to learn more about each of the works and come view the collection for themselves."
