CAROLINAEAST MEDICAL CENTER NAMED AMONG NEWSWEEK’S WORLD’S BEST HOSPITALS

For the seventh consecutive year, CarolinaEast Medical Center is named one of the top best hospitals in the United States by Newsweek magazine in their annual "World’s Best Hospitals" rankings. The 2025 list lands CarolinaEast at 110 out of 6,120 hospitals in the United States.

Newsweek is a premier news magazine and website that has been bringing high quality journalism to readers around the globe for more than 80 years. This is the seventh year of their World’s Best Hospitals rankings, in all of which CarolinaEast has ranked highly. Rankings are based on an extensive evaluation process, including an online survey of thousands of medical experts (doctors, hospital managers and health care professionals), patient experience data, hospital quality metrics and a PROMs Implementation Survey. Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) are defined as standardized, validated questionnaires completed by patients to measure their perception of their functional well-being and quality of life.

“Few decisions carry more weight than selecting a hospital for yourself or a loved one,” stated Alexis Kayser, Healthcare Editor of Newsweek. “This choice is often made while feeling unwell or after a stressful diagnosis—making it all the more difficult. That's why ready information about where world-class medical care is available can make all the difference in ensuring the best possible outcomes.”

In addition to ranking in the top 1.7% of United States hospitals, Newsweek recognized CarolinaEast for performing above the average in Infection Prevention measures. Earlier this year, the New Bern hospital was also recognized on Newsweek’s list of America’s Best-In-State Hospitals 2025, ranked as #7 in North Carolina. Additionally, CarolinaEast Medical Center was named one of the top best hospitals in the state by Business North Carolina magazine in their annual "Best Hospitals" issue released February 28.

“It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our 3,200+ employees that we are once again included among the best hospitals in the nation and state. We are proud that Newsweek and Business NC have put us in the same conversation as the elites in healthcare,” said Michael Smith, President and CEO, CarolinaEast Health System. “Providing healthcare becomes increasingly challenging every year, and our team of professionals consistently rise to the occasion. I am proud to work with such amazing people.”
